All Time World Cup!
Argentina have a long footballing history, having been among the first nations outside of Europe to take up the game. After finishing runners up in the first ever World Cup, Argentina were victims of their own success.
For decades, other countries poached their best players such as Raimundo Orsi and Luis Monti to play for their national teams. They would be back to bolster their homeland this time. Argentina would be managed by 1978 world champion Cesar Menotti, who would give more freedom to the attackers than other, more cynical managers such as Juan Carlos Lorenzo and Carlos Bilardo.
The real control over the team and the way it played would perhaps come down to two players: Alfredo Di Stefano and Diego Maradona. Both huge personalities and the focal point of every side they ever played in, if they could work together they could surely be devastating. Argentina have over the years played both sublime attacking football and ugly, brutal football. Which would come to the fore this time?
